The most comprehensive option

Auschwitz and Wieliczka Salt Mine Day Trip from Krakow

Visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz in a single day

Visit both of these iconic sites from Polish history on a single day trip from Kraków. Gain an in-depth understanding of each place with the help of a professional guide who will accompany you throughout the tour.

Duration: 11 hours

This tour will take almost the whole day, but it’s well worth it if you want to make the most of your stay in Kraków by visiting two of the most important sites Poland has to offer its visitors.

Your first stop will be the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, home to what was once the most notorious concentration camp in history. There, you can explore every corner that shaped the history of the Jewish people during the Nazi era, as well as pay tribute to those who lost their lives there. Please note that you must bring identification and, generally speaking, photography is permitted, with a few exceptions.

The tour will then take you to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, where you can see statues, chapels and carved works that make this underground complex a true wonder.

The great thing about booking this combined tour is that it also includes transfers between the sites as well as return transport to Kraków. You’ll always be accompanied by an expert guide, and admission to both sites is included.

Recommended if... you have a free day to get out of the city and visit these impressive, exciting and history-steeped sites. You won’t have to worry about the logistics of anything and will be able to enjoy the experience to the full.

If you’re the sort of person who, when travelling, prefers not to complicate things by dealing with a foreign language, sorting out transport, tickets or guide services, my advice is to opt for an organised tour to the Wieliczka Salt Mines from Kraków to discover this beautiful World Heritage Site.

If you book through Hellotickets, there are several options for an organised trip to the Wieliczka Salt Mines, depending on whether, for example, you’re interested in a private tour (€126), an all-inclusive tour (€44) or just the transfer with a guided tour (€43), although with the latter option, tickets are at your own expense and aren’t included in the tour price.

That is why, when booking your tickets, I advise you to read carefully what the tour includes and what it does not, so that you can choose the one that best suits your needs and preferences.

What organised tours usually include

  • Return transport by air-conditioned coach
  • Professional guide
  • Tickets to the Wieliczka Salt Mines

What tours do not usually include

  • Tips
  • Food and drink
  • The tour does not include the lift to the bottom of the mine

At first glance, a mine might not seem like the ideal place for a family outing. But because it’s such an unusual and unique place, a visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mines is something they’ll remember forever. It’s not every day you get the chance to venture deep into the Earth!

What’s more, children of all ages can take part in the guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mines, and entry is free for children under 4. All other children must have their own ticket.

They’ll have a brilliant time exploring the interior of an ancient medieval mine and listening to all the legends surrounding it. They’ll see loads of underground chambers and galleries, curious rock formations, beautiful salt lakes, amazing sculptures, and learn all about the miners’ hard work.

If you’d like to find out more about visiting this special monument with the family, I recommend reading the post ‘Visiting the Salt Mines with Children’.
