The Palace of Versailles is a true icon in France and one of the must-see tourist attractions you should visit during your trip to Paris.
It is located 25 kilometres from the capital, and you may need to have lunch there due to opening times or because you get peckish before your scheduled visit.
With this in mind, when planning your visit, just as you’ll want to find out about the types and prices of tickets for Versailles, how to get from Paris to Versailles, what to see at the Palace of Versailles complex, and the opening times for Versailles, it’s also a good idea to know some great places to eat during your trip. Especially if you’re travelling with children, who can’t skip meals.
Take note of these 10 places to eat in Versailles where you can dine like a king. Literally!
1. Le Dauphin
If you’re travelling to Paris on a tight budget but would like to have a meal at the wonderful Palace of Versailles, a good idea is to pop in for a bite to eat at Le Dauphin, situated in the middle of its gardens.
It’s also a good option if you want to take a break during your visit and fancy a quick bite that won’t take up too much of your time. The service is quick and the prices are quite affordable.
At Le Dauphin, you’ll find simple savoury and sweet dishes, as well as hot and cold options to satisfy your hunger. For example, sandwiches, fresh salads prepared on the spot, homemade wheat pancakes and ice cream, amongst other things. And you can order to eat in or take away if you fancy a picnic.
- Address: In the Dauphin grove area.
- Recommended dish: Salads
2. La Flottille
La Flottille is a brasserie situated opposite the canal in the Park of Versailles, offering magnificent views of the palace and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for taking a break during lunch and relaxing whilst enjoying high-quality traditional French cuisine.
La Flottille has two dining areas. One is the indoor dining room, decorated in a charming vintage style, and the other is the outdoor terrace. If it’s a sunny day, I recommend choosing the latter, as it’s wonderful to dine there in the warmth of the sun.
As for the menu, this restaurant offers French-inspired dishes. The selection is varied, ranging from set menus and daily specials to à la carte options such as grilled dishes, salads, pasta, pizzas, meat and fish, amongst others.
Prices are reasonable and the service is attentive. Furthermore, La Flottille offers a takeaway service should you wish to order something to take away and enjoy a picnic during your visit to Versailles.

- Recommended dish: Croque-monsieur sandwich
3. Le Grand Café d’Orléans
Another place where you can enjoy a pleasant meal during your visit to the Palace of Versailles is Le Grand Café d’Orléans.
It is a spacious, contemporary-style café where you can sit down for a quick bite when you’re short on time during your tour of the Palace of Versailles and hunger strikes.
Le Grand Café d’Orléans is a good place to unwind for a moment. It isn’t usually packed with tourists, so you can relax in peace whilst enjoying a coffee.
You can also order food to eat there or to take away if you fancy a picnic in the park. There’s a wide variety of items to choose from, so you’re sure to find something you like: from rolls and sandwiches to salads and pastries for those with a sweet tooth, amongst other things. Prices are reasonable.

4. Le Petite Venise
If you fancy a lovely meal during your visit to the Palace of Versailles, I recommend visiting Le Petite Venise. You’ll love it!
This restaurant is situated in a bucolic setting, between the Grand Canal and the Apollo Basin, right in the heart of the Palace of Versailles. It is, therefore, a place with a very pleasant atmosphere that is perfectly suited to a romantic date, a family meal or a get-together with friends. It’s no surprise, then, that it’s listed as a historic monument.
As for the menu, Le Petite Venise offers an Italian-inspired lunch made with fresh, seasonal produce. If you have the chance and your trip to Paris coincides with spring or summer in Paris, I recommend booking a table on the terrace to enjoy a delicious plate of pasta in the sunshine, accompanied by a good glass of wine.

Another great place to eat during a visit to the Palace of Versailles is La Girandole, a charming brasserie situated in the gardens of Versailles between the palace and Little Venice. A spot surrounded by nature where you can spend a peaceful moment taking in the scenery whilst enjoying a delicious lunch or afternoon snack.
The menu is simple but varied, with dishes that will give you the energy you need to continue your tour of the Palace of Versailles. There’s a bit of everything: from hot and cold sandwiches, salads and burgers to pizza, pasta and crêpes. If you’re visiting Versailles with children, you can be sure they’ll find something they like at La Girandole.
What’s more, it offers good value for money, as does the restaurant’s service. The staff are always attentive to customers.

6. Angelina Petit Trianon
For visitors who, during their trip to Versailles, want to take a short break near the Petit Trianon and fancy treating themselves to a gourmet afternoon tea, my advice is to head to the terrace at Angelina Petit Trianon.
In this lovely spot, you can sample Parisian delicacies such as chocolate éclairs, tarte citron or mille-feuilles, amongst many other delicious pastries. It will be hard to leave Angelina Petit Trianon having had just one! Pair them with a cup of tea or their famous hot chocolate and you’ll be in seventh heaven.
For those who prefer savoury to sweet, this café also serves sandwiches such as croque-monsieur, salads or onion soup, to name but a few dishes.
Prices are on the mid-to-high side, but if you have a generous budget or fancy treating yourself, the experience is well worth it.
- Address: Parc du Château de Versailles, Petit Trianon, 78000, Versailles
- Recommended dish: Chocolate éclair
7. Chez Tiouiche - Au Bon Accueil
Just outside the Palace of Versailles but nearby, you’ll find Chez Tiouiche - Au Bon Accueil, a restaurant with a North African-inspired menu and décor where you can sample one of the best couscous dishes in Paris.
At Chez Tiouiche - Au Bon Accueil, I recommend ordering a little bit of everything from the menu to sample the different flavours of Maghreb cuisine, such as tagine, couscous, kefta skewers or zalouk salad. And to top it all off… the desserts! They’re absolutely delicious, especially the baklava served with a cup of Moroccan tea.
The restaurant is family-run and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The owners are very hospitable and go out of their way to make you feel at home.
- Address: 4 Rue St-Julien, 78000 Versailles, France

8. Crêperie la Place
Who doesn’t love crêpes? They are one of the most typical and popular dishes in French cuisine, thanks to their rich flavour and versatility, as they come in both sweet and savoury versions.
If, after your visit to the Palace of Versailles, you fancy a few crêpes, don’t miss Creperie la Place, a small, cosy French-style restaurant where you can tuck in to your heart’s content.
As well as this famous dish, at Creperie la Place you can also choose other options from the menu, such as salads, and they even have a children’s menu, ideal if you’re visiting Versailles with children. It offers good value for money and the service is friendly.
- Address: 17 rue Colbert, 78000, Versailles, France
- Recommended dish: Crepe campagnole.
9. Pizza Via Veneto
If you get peckish during your visit to the Palace of Versailles and are so hungry you don’t quite know what to eat, pizza is a handy option that everyone loves. In fact, very close to Versailles you’ll find the restaurant Pizza Via Veneto, which serves some delicious slices.
It’s a cosy, family-run pizzeria with a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for unwinding after a busy visit to the Palace of Versailles. The service is excellent, as are the prices.
The pizzas are just the right size (you won’t go hungry, nor will you feel stuffed) and what a smell! If you’re a pizza fan, you’re going to have a great time eating there.

10. Picnic in Versailles
If your visit to the Palace of Versailles coincides with milder weather in Paris and you wake up to a sunny, clear day, a really cool option for eating there is to have a picnic to enjoy the nature and the relaxed atmosphere of the area. You’ll feel like the King of France himself!
At the Palace of Versailles, you can have a picnic by the Lake of the Swiss Guard or on the Plain of Saint-Antoine, between the palace and the Trianon palaces. It’s a fantastic idea if you’re out on a family outing and want the children to have fun playing outdoors, or if you fancy surprising your partner with a romantic moment.
There are several places within Versailles where you can buy food for your picnic, such as La Flottille, Le Grand Café d'Orléans, La Girandole or Dauphin's Groves. All of them offer a takeaway service.
