Step by Step

The Blackheads' House is one of Riga's most impressive historic buildings, famous for its façade decorated with Gothic and Renaissance elements that pay homage to the city's commercial power in the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, this iconic building has hosted celebrations, receptions, guild meetings and cultural events.

As you enter, you can walk through richly decorated rooms, such as the Great Hall and the ceremonial rooms, where objects, furniture and documents explaining the importance of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads are on display. This association of young unmarried merchants played a key role in the economic and social development of medieval and modern Riga.

The tour also includes areas dedicated to the history of the building, detailing its origin, its destruction during World War II and its meticulous reconstruction in the 1990s. These areas provide an insight into how the Black Heads' House developed from a guild centre to a national symbol.

To complete the experience, there is the option of enjoying a drink of your choice: coffee, sparkling wine or blackcurrant balsam. The latter, a traditional Latvian liqueur, adds a perfect cultural touch to the visit, allowing you to savour a symbol of local identity.

All in all, this ticket invites you to discover a must-see monument of Riga, combining history, architecture and culture in an elegant and characterful setting.

Just right for a day's sightseeing. It's not interactive or modern like other museums, but it's classic and elegant.

We included it as a quick stop on our free tour of Riga. It was good to understand some of the urban history.
