Step by Step

You will start your adventure crossing the motorway from Bilbao towards La Rioja, enjoying spectacular views of mountains, oak and beech forests that give way to the plateau. Rural atmosphere and history intertwine from the first kilometre.

The first stop is Haro, the wine capital of La Rioja. You will visit the centuries-old CVNE winery, designed in part by Gustave Eiffel, and tour its barrel rooms and underground cellars. You will learn about the ageing process and taste its most emblematic wines.

You will then stroll through the historic centre of Haro, with the Plaza de la Paz and the famous Barrio de la Estación, where numerous traditional wineries are grouped together. You will enjoy the flavour of the town and local anecdotes narrated by your guide.

The route continues to Laguardia, a medieval walled town in the Rioja Alavesa. Here you will visit a family winery to learn about traditional winemaking methods and taste wines with character. You will have free time for lunch, with recommendations from your guide on the best restaurants in the area.

Before heading back, you'll make a brief stop in Elciego to see the spectacular Hotel Marqués de Riscal, designed by Frank Gehry, which blends modernity with tradition. Finally, you will return by motorway to Bilbao, where you will arrive mid-afternoon with the memory of a day full of flavour and culture.

I went with my family and my boyfriend's family and we did the tour alone, there was no one else so it felt very exclusive. The guide was great and treated us very well at all times.
