In addition to being the birthplace of flamenco and a wealth of folk and popular traditions that have crossed borders, the city is also full of historical attractions and new trends.

What's more, if you're visiting with children, there are lots of things they'll enjoy: theme parks, interactive museums, bike rides and ancient cities. Come with me and I'll show you 11 things to do that your little ones will love.

When travelling with children, one of the main dilemmas is how to keep them from getting bored while the adults visit Seville's main monuments and museums. However, in the capital of Seville, many of its tourist attractions are so steeped in history and so impressive that the little ones will be left speechless. A good example of this is the Alcázar of Seville.

This enormous and dazzling complex of palaces features architectural examples from various periods, dating back to Al-Andalus. For adults, it can be a cultural experience to get to know this place up close, but for children, it is also the perfect setting to let their imagination run wild.

The large galleries, colonnaded corridors and gardens will transport them to a fantasy world. What's more, for the more curious visitors, the Alcázar itself offers free audio guides adapted for children, allowing them to learn about the place in an educational and entertaining way. There are many options for visiting the Alcázar. Here are some of the available options:

Useful information

  • Price: general admission is around €22, but children under 13 pay a symbolic price of €1.
  • Location: the Alcázar is located in the Patio de Banderas, right next to the Cathedral.
  • Opening hours: from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Giralda and the Alcázar are great, but who doesn't want to spend a day full of fun and adrenaline? If you come to Seville with children, you can't miss spending a day visiting the largest theme park in the whole of Andalusia, Isla Mágica.

With all kinds of attractions, roller coasters and water rides, this place is ideal for spending an entertaining day with the family. In addition to the attractions, when you book your tickets for Isla Mágica, you will have access to different themed areas, with the pirate show as the main attraction.

Children can watch the pirates storm the fort, eat in themed restaurants and take part in various games and attractions designed especially for them. If you want to keep them smiling all day long, you have to spend the day at this very special park.

Useful information

  • Price: general admission is around €25, but children's tickets are approximately €15.
  • Location: Isla Mágica is located in the Pabellón de España, near Isla de la Cartuja.
  • Opening hours: the park is open from April to November, as most of its attractions are water-based, and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with morning and afternoon sessions.

If you are travelling to Seville with young children who love animals, I can't think of a better plan for the holidays than visiting the Seville Aquarium.

Located very close to Plaza España, this place has up to 36 freshwater and saltwater tanks and a wide selection of flora and fauna from all over the world. It's a perfect opportunity for children to learn a little more about the ocean floor and become more aware of the environment.

What's more, the facilities are great if you come to Seville in the summer, as you can escape the heat for a few hours. The aquarium has up to 7,000 marine animals and offers different themed tours designed for children, such as the route taken by Magellan on his voyage across the seven seas. Don't miss it!

Useful information

  • Price: general admission is around €18, but children can enter for €13 and those under 4 years old are free. You can also find discounts for large families, spectator days or family packs.
  • Location: the Aquarium is located at Muelle de las Delicias.
  • Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 8 p.m., depending on the season.

If you want your children to enjoy a different experience and be transported back in time, I can't think of a better plan than visiting the ancient Roman city of Italica. An original architectural example of what Hispania was like centuries ago. The ruins are only 10 kilometres from the city centre of Seville and Italica is easily accessible by car or bus.

But don't think that you're just going to visit a bunch of ruins. The ticket includes a guided tour that will take you to the main sites and explain everything in detail. What's more, to make it even more amazing for the little ones, there are several daily performances in which the site is dramatised, with actors dressed as Romans recreating what life was like there.

Seville has many beautiful villages, but this will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience for children, who will be able to become protagonists of the Roman Empire for a day.

Useful information

  • Price: general admission is €20 and €15 for children. However, you can opt for a ticket that includes transport for €42 and €21 respectively.
  • Location: the ruins are located at Av. Extremadura, 2, in the village of Santiponce.
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 6 p.m., depending on the season. Closed on Mondays.

Seville may be full of charming narrow streets and neighbourhoods, but we have to admit that what young children enjoy most when they are on holiday is getting out of their routine and doing different activities. For these cases, I have the perfect plan for you: a boat trip on the Guadalquivir.

Don't forget that the river that surrounds this beautiful city is the famous Guadalquivir, and being able to sail on one of the many boat trips on offer is one of the most enjoyable experiences for children.

On the banks of the river, you can find different tours and boat trips where you can have a good time with your family. These trips usually last an hour and a half, and while you can see the main tourist attractions such as the Giralda from the boat, the little ones will enjoy the experience of sailing along this iconic river.

Useful information

  • Price: prices are around €23.
  • Location: most tours depart from the docks near Puerta de Jerez and Plaza España.
  • Duration: they usually last 1.5 hours.

6. Explore the city with the little ones by bike

There are many ways to get around Seville and see all its sights. If you are only visiting for a few days, it is advisable to make the most of your time and take the metro, and if you have more time, you can explore on foot. However, when you come with children, the distances can be longer than you would like, which is why one of the most enjoyable alternatives is to take a bike tour of Seville.

You can either rent bikes on your own for the whole day or book one of the many bike tours around the city.

The truth is that it's a different way to get to know Seville, a city that is ideal and very comfortable for this means of transport, where you can discover its main attractions and also have fun and take care of the environment. The kids will be exhausted at the end of the day and will have enjoyed the visit more than anyone else.

Useful information

  • Price: guided bike tours usually cost around €29 and bike hire around €10.
  • Location: depending on the activity you choose, but there are usually many options in the city centre.
  • Timetable: tours usually last around 3 hours.

One place that children are sure to love on your trip to Seville is the Museum of Illusions. Here they can enjoy an experience for all the senses thanks to the thousands of optical illusions, hologram games and 3D puzzles that they will find in the different rooms.

Both adults and children will be amazed by the vortex tunnel and the mirages that will make you believe you are somewhere else entirely in this museum that confuses your senses. Spend a fun and surprising afternoon in this unique place in the capital of Seville.

Useful information

  • Price: general admission is around €16.
  • Location: it is located at 28 San Eloy Street, right in the centre.
  • Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Seville is full of green spaces where you can spend a pleasant time with your family. If you are travelling with children, you should visit María Luisa Park, a green space next to Plaza España with fountains, walkways and sculptures.

It is considered one of the most beautiful and popular urban green spaces in Seville and, as well as being a breath of fresh air in the middle of the city centre, it has different children's areas with slides and swings for the little ones to enjoy.

However, if you want to spend a little more time and go with the whole family to spend a day in the open air and have a picnic, I recommend you go to Alamillo Park, a large green area in the north of the city that you can reach by bus and which offers large esplanades, trails, bike and skate rental, and train rides. A wonderful place to enjoy with the family away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Useful information

  • Price: admission is free.
  • Location: it is located opposite the Polígono Norte industrial estate, on the A-8083 road, less than 4 kilometres north of the city centre.
  • Opening hours: open every day of the year from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

If there is one cultural organisation in Spain that is tailored to the tastes of children and families, it is undoubtedly CaixaForum. You are in luck, as Seville has one of its cultural centres, making it a great place to spend the morning during your visit to the city.

The exhibitions and workshops change every season, but there are always activities suitable for all ages and rooms where you can interact and learn.

Whether it's science, astronomy, nature or culture, at CaixaForum you can be sure of an entertaining morning where the children will be kept busy and have a great time. What's more, the building is located at the foot of the Guadalquivir River, so when you leave you can take a stroll and have a drink near the river.

Useful information

  • Price: general admission costs around £5.
  • Location: the museum is located in the Torre Sevilla shopping centre.
  • Opening hours: open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There is nothing a child enjoys more than a good adventure, and Seville is a specialist in this field, as it has the large Navigation Pavilion near the Guadalquivir River, where all the remains of the great voyages made by ship during the Spanish Empire are on display.

This space, designed for the 1992 Expo, even has samples of the ships with which Columbus arrived in America centuries ago.

Children will be able to see with their own eyes the models and original remains of those legendary ships, as well as whale skeletons and all kinds of navigation tools. You can also see Seville from above with your family, as this Pavilion has the so-called Torre Mirador, which offers spectacular views.

Useful information

  • Price: general admission costs around €5. Children pay a reduced admission of approximately €4 and children under 5 enter free of charge.
  • Location: the Pavilion is located at Camino de los Descubrimientos, 2.
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Sundays it closes at 3 p.m. and on Mondays it is closed.

As you can see, Seville has a lot to see and do, but if you want to get off the beaten track of museums and monuments and enjoy a unique and entertaining place for children, you have to discover the Casa de la Ciencia, a space located a few steps from Plaza España that offers all kinds of activities, workshops and exhibitions related to the world of science.

Children can learn more about the adventures of the high seas during the discovery of America, visit the entire planetarium area and participate in geology or archaeology workshops.

The House of Science is an important centre for scientific dissemination that has managed to adapt perfectly to a younger audience and is one of the favourite places for children who come with their parents to visit Seville.

Useful information

  • Price: a combined ticket with the planetarium costs around £5, although children under 3 years old enter free of charge.
  • Location: the museum is located on Avenida Maria Luisa, just opposite Plaza España.
